Misty Miller – The Whole Family Is Worried review

Misty Miller’s album,The Whole Family Is Worried, has been a long time in the making, and it was definitely worth the wait.

Having recently seen Misty live twice supporting The Crookes on their UK tour, once acoustically and once with her full band, I was really looking forward to hearing what the album would sound like.

Happily, for me it sounds like a mix of those two shows; with the faster songs like Girlfriend and Happy having the punchy feel of her with the band, and then the more mellow songs like Fall Away have that intimacy of her acoustic show.

The whole album shows just how great a songwriter Misty is, with the stories behind the songs becoming more clear with each listen. (There have been a lot of listens.) This is especially true on her more ballad-esque songs like Best Friend and Fall Away, but it is still easily said for more upbeat tracks like Marmalade and Happy.

Almost every track on the album could potentially be a single, with current non-single Marmalade being a highlight for me, with it’s half spoken, half sung verses and annoyingly catchy chorus. Singles Happy and Taxi Cab are also stand-outs, with Happy’s chorus having been looping in my head ever since I first heard it.

When seeing her live, the track Best Friend always stood out as being exceptionally emotional and a real ‘moment’ in the set. This track is the album closer, and has the same effect here, with Misty’s great, storytelling song writing shining through yet again.
