I asked Jake Houlsby some quick questions:
What’s your favourite pre-gig food?
You can never go wrong with a decent burger and chips!
Where is the furthest you’ve have travelled to play a gig?
Being a Northerner, the furthest I’ve travelled is the 300 miles to the big smoke! I’ll hopefully be spreading my wings a bit more next year though and going to Ireland for a few gigs.
What would be your dream venue to play?
I’d absolutely love to play to a packed out Royal Albert Hall. I recently saw Tallest Man On Earth there and it was incredible.
Who would you love to share a bill with?
I’d LOVE to share a bill with Sufjan Stevens. I’d die a satisfied man if I managed that.
What’s the best gig you’ve had so far?
It’s hard to pick out a ‘best gig’ cause the special ones are always special for different reasons. As time goes by though, the gig that sticks in my head and heart the most is one I put on in a church in Newcastle in May 2014. It was an amazing time in my life on a personal level and that gig was the first proper gig I’d ever put on. I put a lot of work into promoting it and, incredibly, I pulled it off. I think what made it so good was that I thought it was going to go so badly and nobody was going to show up but they did and it was just incredible.
Jake’s single ‘Bloom’ is out now, and was a recent WYM song of the day.
