Yonaka played at The Leadmill in Sheffield on 20th November with support from Rusalka and Zuzu. Having released their debut album ‘Don’t Wait Till Tomorrow’ back in May of this year (2019), Yonaka had proven themselves to be one of the most exciting new acts, with extremely polished synthy rock tunes aplenty. Would they live up to this energy in a live show? Yes.
Kicking off their set with ‘Punch Bag’ from said debut album, it was instantly clear that Yonaka were an extremely energetic live band. It was difficult for me to get many clear shots of front-woman Theresa Jarvis as she was just so active on stage, combine that with the great lighting setup which was genuinely impressive for a venue such as the Leadmill, this was one lively set. The levels of energy did nothing to dampen the quality of the music however, as the band were extremely tight throughout the show.
The crowd was full of big Yonaka fans who were singing every word back to them all the way to their final song ‘F.W.T.B’ (which stands for Fucking With The Best btw) and after seeing their live show, they’ve gained another fan.
